Free and Accepted Masons (Crawford) Lodge #470
Chartered date: 1874
Year of closure: May 2, 2019 (merged with Eckerty Lodge #719)
Information:
After getting their charter, a hall was built and used until 1903. The lodge was then placed above the bank building. In 1922, a new hall was completed. (*History of Crawford County Indiana – Pleasant)
On April 19, 1929, a fire razed a two story building occupied by the C.J. Sams Motor Company and the Masonic lodge / Eastern Star chapter. (*Twentieth Century History of Crawford County – H.O. “Whitey” Jones)

The charter date I have mentioned is not correct, per newspaper articles that are prior to that date that mention the lodge. I am not sure if they lost their charter and had a new one done, but there are some irregularities that need be researched more.











Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #387

The Eastern Star Chapter was organized at English on July 24, 1913, with thirty charter members. The Leavenworth degree team, which consisted of Mr. and Mrs. T.P. Ellsworth, H.H. Deem, S.E. Grimes, D. Moyers, Hugh Friedley, C.T. Allen, William Fesler, Grace Houser, Lou Paxter, Lloyd Curts, Alice Sprinkle, Belle Alexander, Maude Robinson, Rella Rainforth, Margaret Booth, Delia Conrad and Esther Conrad came over from Leavenworth and conferred the degree. On the account of the train wreck, the Grand Matron and secretary did not arrive till about midnight. The refreshments were served at the Commercial Hotel about ten o’clock that night. The officers elected for the newly organized chapter were: Worthy Matron – Mrs. Joel Melton; Worthy Patron – Henry Mock; Associate Matron – Mrs. J.E. Stewart; Conductress – Mrs. Oliver Blevins; Secretary – Nell Thornbury; Treasurer – Mrs. Harrison Brown; Sentinel – George W. Cuzzort. (History of Crawford County Indiana – HH Pleasant)
